NEW CROWN LAND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT STRATEGY
The NSW Government is encouraging Crown land managers, tenure holders, trusts, councils and the wider community to have their say on the draft Community Engagement Strategy for Crown land.
Minister for Lands and Forestry Paul Toole said the strategy would outline requirements for engagement on dealings such as licences, leases and sales.
“This strategy is central to improving transparency and meaningful engagement with the community on Crown land decisions,” Mr Toole said.
“It mandates that engagement must occur where dealings and activities have potential to impact on community use and enjoyment of Crown land.
“Community and stakeholder feedback on the draft strategy will play a vital role in ensuring its practicality and relevance to all people who manage and use Crown land.”
Along with the draft strategy, a Guidance and Resources document has been prepared to help Crown land managers comply with strategy requirements.
“Both documents will be a valuable resource for the community and promote a greater understanding of when and how engagement is required for decisions about Crown land,” Mr Toole said.
The Community Engagement Strategy is a requirement under the Crown Land Management Act 2016.
The draft Community Engagement Strategy is on public exhibition from Monday 16 October to Sunday 26 November 2017.
A series of community information sessions will be held in Sydney, Newcastle, Ballina, Wagga Wagga and Dubbo during the exhibition period.
