In 2008 Kevin Rudd Apologised to the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Peoples

The Baabayn Aboriginal Corporation is inviting people of goodwill to remember and reflect on The Apology as delivered by the then Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd.

The Apology Commemoration will be held on Tuesday 13 February 2018 at 5:30 pm at the Holy Family Centre at Emert Parade, Emerton.

Baabayn has invited Mount Druitt & District Reconciliation Group to assist in the preparation of this year’s Apology Commemoration with the joint aim of celebrating the joy expressed by both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in 2008 at the Apology and the following and continuing expectations of healing in the future.

In 2018 our major speakers and joint MCs are Dr John Hunter and Ms Karen Sayed.  They will be supported by local members of the Clontarf Foundation with Indigenous performers.

Each year we invite Aboriginal Elders, representatives from both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal organisations, local and state government members, local members of the community and teachers from our local schools.

Together we will invite people to discuss the preparation of a joint letter setting out the unfinished business in our community. We are concerned about the harmful effects of intergenerational trauma persistent in the community with drug and alcohol abuse and impacts on families.  The community needs answers from their federal and state representatives about inadequate services available to Western Sydney.

Supper is provided. An RSVP will help us plan appropriately.

Come along on Tuesday 13 February 2018 at 5:30 pm at the Holy Family Centre at Emert Parade, Emerton.
