The NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian has released a discussion paper about the regulation of child safe organisations in NSW.
The discussion paper proposes changes that would make it compulsory for many organisations in NSW to meet the child safe standards recommended by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
If your agency has an important role in delivering services to children and young people and/or supporting organisations that deliver these services.
You can find the paper and information about how to have your say at the following links: • https://www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/about-us/news/nsw-child-safe-standards-public-consultation-now-open • NSW Government consultation website: https://www.nsw.gov.au/improving-nsw/have-your-say/regulating-child-safe-organisations/
I encourage you to read the discussion paper and provide us with your feedback. We will use your feedback to design an approach that responds to the recommendations of the Royal Commission and is appropriate for NSW.
You can provide your feedback by sending us an email, completing the survey, or posting us a written submission. We also encourage you to promote this through your networks.
Public consultation closes 29 March 2019. I understand this timeframe may be difficult to meet due to the caretaker period. Please contact Vanessa Viaggio, Policy Manager (Vanessa.firstname.lastname@example.org or 8219 3705) if you would like to discuss this further.
